Welcome
to my first installment of 2006. January is usually a quite time of
year, however I have been busy gigging with Acoustric at (an extremely
busy!) Matt
& Phreds Jazz Club in Manchester's Northern Quarter (a place
where all the hip people go!!!). Matt & Phreds is a real "Jazz
Club".......smoky, seedy......the whole Greenwich Village experience
in Manchester! If you're ever in the area of an evening, it's well worth
checking out. Live music Mon - Sat, with a door charge on Fridays and
Saturdays only. Visit their website
for music listings and check out the "musicians" section to
see who the "jazz cats are in town"!
It's been great
to start the year with a couple of Album reviews - both positive as
well. Firstly, check out Basstech
UK This is great site authored by the team that organised the "UK
Bass Day" in Manchester. The second review came in the form
of a "Bass Bite" in the UK's only Bass periodical"Bass
Guitar Magazine". The review written by Stuart
Clayton is now archived in the Reviews
Page.
My tutor book
entitled "An Introduction To The Bass Guitar" is all
but complete. I am still in the process of "proofing" and
fine tuning aspects of it. Many of my bass students have been trialing
the chapters and pieces with much success......If any of you guys are
reading this THANKYOU for being patient. I hope to get a short run produced
within the next couple of months and a limited number copies will be
available through this site at a modest price.

On The Road With Angie
Palmer See my below
comments in blue!!
I will be joining Angie Palmer
and her band for the following dates in February to promote her latest
album "Road". I will be playing acoustic basses (upright/guitar)
on these gigs. Visit
Angie's Site for more info about the album and gigs.
Feb 7th @The
New Roscoe Bristol Street, Sheepscar. Leeds.
To Book Tickets. 0113 246 0778 The first gig
of the tour, not so well attended but served as a good warm up.
Feb 9th @ Matt & Phreds, Manchester
City Centre A successful night, a packed house
with some great feedback from the (or my) home crowd. We played a tight
set despite the odd rude punter talking over the acoustic numbers -
Angie picked them out and was quick to embarrass the offenders!!!
Feb 13th @The
Musician Leicester Clyde Street Leicester. My
first visit to this quaint venue. The Musician is an provides and intimate
setting ideal for more acoustic music.
Feb15th @
The
Half Moon Putney 93
Lower Richmond Road, London
With Full Band. To Book Tickets. 020 8780 9383 A
London debut for the full band, well attended - I would look forward
to playing there again.
Feb 25th
The
Brewery Arts Centre Kendal,
Cumbria. The best gig of the tour by far,
very well attended - sold out infact. We played two sets to a great
audience.
Feb27th The
New Adelphi Hull. After a harrowing
drive in heavy traffic snow with dodgy directions, we finally arrived
late at the venue...........All I can say is "What A Shit Hole"
This place hasn't been cleaned or decorated for years. If you ever happen
to go to the New Adelphi refrain from 1) Sitting Down anywhere and 2)
saying "Candy Man" three times in the toilets!!! Unless you
want to catch your horrible death! After all said and done we played
to an admiring audience, which made the journey worth while.
New For 2005
Happy new year to
all visitors!!! Within the next month or so....I will be posting mp3
demos on this site of tracks from my latest project - a series of original
solo/backing exam pieces for electric bass.
Over the five years
this site has been on the web, I have recived countless emails and guestbook
postings regarding various bits of kit that I use to make music! I endevour
to reply to most of them, hot topics are the Piccolo Bass and Chapman
Stick. Info on these can be found on the Bass Anorak
page.
To
cover all the other gear I use, I will be constructing a "My Gear"
page. It will consist of pictures and comments on the Basses and Amplification
that I have used over the years
